Report: XFC Alum Cornelius Godfrey Killed in Motorcycle Accident

Bantamweight prospect and Xtreme Fighting Championships veteran Cornelius Godfrey was reportedly killed early Thursday morning in a motorcycle accident in Columbus, Ohio.

According to a report from Columbus’ NBC4i.com, Godfrey, 25, crashed into a guard rail while heading home from a pub located approximately one mile from the crash site. Police responded to the scene at 3:35 a.m. after the fighter’s wife pinged his cell phone and located the crash site. Godrey, who was pronounced dead by authorities at 3:45 a.m., is survived by his wife and infant daughter.

Godfrey made his pro MMA debut in May 2011 and rattled off five straight wins before making his lone appearance in the Florida-based XFC, suffering the only defeat of his pro career nearly one year ago at XFC 20. The West Virginia native rebounded with back-to-back victories, posting unanimous decision wins over “TUF 14” alum B.J. Ferguson and Corey Simmons to kick off 2013.
