By Brian Knapp Sep 24, 2016
A little more than 10 years ago, Mirko Filipovic was the last man standing in the historic 2006 Pride Fighting Championships open weight grand prix. Now, at age 42, he will attempt to replicate the feat under the Rizin Fighting Federation banner.

“Cro Cop” tipped the scales at 230 pounds ahead of his battle with Hyun Man Myung (253) in the opening round of the 2016 Rizin open weight grand prix on Sunday at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The 10 other men booked for tournament bouts at Rizin 2 also made their participation official at Saturday’s official weigh-in: Kaido Hoovelson (401) vs. Kazuyuki Fujita (248), Jiri Prochazka (215) vs. Mark Tanios (238), Karl Albrektsson (231) vs. Valentin Moldavsky (217), Amir Aliakbari (252) vs. Joao Isidoro Almeida (233) and Teodoras Aukstuolis (227) vs. Szymon Bajor (246).

In non-tournament action, 2013 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist Kron Gracie (145) will confront Hideo Tokoro (145) and Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Daron Cruickshank will lock horns with two-time K-1 World Max champion Andy Souwer (156).
