Robbie Lawler’s next welterweight title defense will come Down Under when he takes on Carlos Condit in the UFC 193 headliner.
Lawler successfully defended the 170-pound strap for the first time in a memorable confrontation with Rory MacDonald at UFC 189. “Ruthless” shattered his opponent’s nose with a powerful left hand 60 seconds into the final stanza to secure a technical knockout victory. Lawler enters the bout on a four-fight winning streak, including victories over Johny Hendricks, Matt Brown and Jake Ellenberger.
After more than a year on the sideline due to knee surgery, Condit made a triumphant return to the Octagon at UFC Fight Night on May 30, when he scored a doctor stoppage victory over Thiago Alves in Brazil. Condit previously captured interim welterweight gold with a victory over Nick Diaz at UFC 143 before dropping a five-round verdict to Georges St. Pierre in a title unification bout at UFC 154.
