Robert Whittaker Wants Yoel Romero after Representing Australia in Commonwealth Games
Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight ace Robert
Whittaker returns to competitive action on April 4, although he
won’t be facing Yoel
Romero.
Barring the UFC rejecting his request, Whittaker will be representing Australia in wrestling as part of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Whittaker took to Instagram to share a selfie as the newest member
of the team.
Whittaker is currently recovering from an infection, which kept him out of the UFC 221 event in Perth, Australia. He has represented his home country on a number of occasions in wrestling.
Whittaker competed in the Australian Cup of amateur wrestling back in 2015 in the 97kg (approx. 214 pounds) weight class, winning three straight matches on his way to victory. He also won the Australian Wrestling Championships last year at the same weight class.
The Australian’s next appearance in the Octagon is currently unknown; he did however reach out on Instagram to the No. 1 contender with an offer to have their rematch in Chicago at UFC 225 on June 9. This date would allow Whittaker a full fight camp (just less than two months) to prepare for the fight following the Commonwealth Games.
