While not yet official, it appears as though van Roosmalen will be afforded the opportunity to regain his championship in a match with Gigi Chikadze later this year.
Meanwhile, heavyweight contender Jhonata Diniz settled for a unanimous decision after nearly stopping Tomas Mozny in the first round. Diniz floored the Slovakian with a sizzling left-right combination to the head, and though the lanky Mozny (17-5-1, 6 KOs) survived the round, he was never again a factor in the fight. Diniz (15-5, 10 KOs) stalked his opponent throughout and was awarded 30-26, 29-27 and 29-27 marks from the judges.
Atlanta-based middleweight Warren Thompson registered his first win under the Glory banner after starting 0-4 in the promotion, as “The Destroyer” dominated Mike Lemaire (18-4, 8 KOs) from start to finish. Thompson (14-8-1, 3 KOs) rocked Lemaire in the first round but could not put him away and instead wound up earning a unanimous decision: 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27.
Bellator MMA veteran Zoila Frausto (5-0, 2 KOs) kept her unblemished kickboxing record intact with a superb performance against Daniela Graf (26-8-1, 2 KOs). While neither woman was hurt, they slugged it out for three rounds. Frausto landed the harder, cleaner shots and thus drew favor from the judges. Scores were 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28, all for Gurgel.
Finally, the aforementioned Chikadze (37-5, 22 KOs) forced his will on promotional newcomer Victor Pinto early and often, unleashing thudding kicks to the head and body. Pinto (72-27, 22 KOs) blocked much of the incoming fire, until a lethal kick to the liver found its mark. Pinto crumbled as soon as the kick connected and was counted out by referee Michael Bell, the end coming 2:03 into Round 1.
