Once again, Ronda Rousey is in the running for a few ESPY awards.
The women’s bantamweight champion, who captured “Best Fighter” honors last year, is once again a candidate in that category as well as “Best Female Athlete “and “Best Play.” Meanwhile, UFC lightweight contender Donald Cerrone is also nominated for “Best Fighter.” Hollywood Reporter revealed the list of 2015 ESPY nominees on Wednesday.
Voting for the ESPYs will conclude on July 15 and winners will be announced at an awards presentation at 8 p.m. ET.
Rousey and Cerrone are joined by boxers Floyd Mayweather Jr., Gennady Golovkin and Terence Crawford in the “Best Fighter” category. Meanwhile, Rousey’s signature armbar will go head-to-head against a dunk from NBA player Gerald Green in a 16 nominee, bracket style format to determine “Best Play.” Finally, “Rowdy” will vie for “Best Female Athlete” against University of Connecticut basketball star Breanna Stewart, skier Lindsey Vonn and professional tennis standout Serena Williams.
Rousey will defend her 135-pound title against Bethe Correia at UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 1. Cerrone, who is coming off a second-round stoppage of John Makdessi on May 23, is expected to wait for a lightweight title shot against Rafael dos Anjos later this year.
