Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey took to Instagram on Sunday to give an update on her health following a brutal knockout loss at UFC 193.
“I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support,” Rousey wrote in a brief statement. “I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I’m fine. As I had mentioned before, I’m going to take a little bit of time, but I’ll be back.”
Rousey was upset by challenger Holly Holm on Sunday in Melbourne, Australia, marking the first defeat in the Olympic judo medalist’s five-year, 13-bout MMA career. Dozens of stiff punches from Holm left the UFC superstar dazed before a perfectly placed head kick and follow-up punches sealed Rousey’s fate.
The 28-year-old Californian was not present at the event’s post-fight press conference, as Rousey was transported to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries. Both Holm and UFC President Dana White agreed that an immediate rematch between the bantamweights is in order, though no time frame was given due to Rousey’s uncertain status.
