Ronda Rousey-Sarah Kaufman Strikeforce Title Bout Official for Aug. 18 in San Diego

A previously rumored women’s Strikeforce bantamweight title tilt between Ronda Rousey and Sarah Kaufman is now official and will take place Aug. 18 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker verified the booking Tuesday during a media conference call. The upcoming event marks the promotion’s third trip to Valley View Casino Center, the most recent of which came in December and featured a lightweight championship headliner between reigning titleholder Gilbert Melendez and challenger Jorge Masvidal.

Rousey, 25, has never allowed an opponent to escape the first round. The 2008 Olympic judo bronze medalist has submitted all five of her professional foes via armbar, most recently wresting the Strikeforce title from Miesha Tate on March 3 in Columbus, Ohio.

Kaufman, meanwhile, looks to regain the title she relinquished to Marloes Coenen nearly 21 months ago in the lone loss of her pro career. Since dropping the belt, the 26-year-old Canadian has rattled off a trio of wins, besting Megumi Yabushita and Liz Carmouche in 2011 before kicking off 2012 with a majority decision victory over countrywoman Alexis Davis.
