A featherweight matchup pitting Rony Mariano Bezerra against Tom Niinimaki is expected to be formally announced by Ultimate Fighting Championship today.
A report from Combate.com initially reported the news, and Bezerra subsequently made posts on his social media accounts that all but confirm the bout. The UFC Fight Night bill takes place Dec. 20 at Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Brazil, and is headlined by a middleweight showdown between Lyoto Machida and C.B. Dollaway.
After winning the inaugural season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil,” Bezerra opened his UFC tenure with three consecutive wins against Godofredo Castro, Sam Sicilia and Mike Wilkinson. Since then, 30-year-old “Rony Jason” has dropped two of three, most recently losing a split decision against Robbie Peralta at UFC Fight Night “Miocic vs. Maldonado.”
From 2007 to 2012, Niinimaki recorded 12 straight wins, including his UFC debut at “The Ultimate Fighter 18” finale. After dropping two consecutive fights via first-round submission, “Stoneface” will have a chance to end 2014 with a win.
