Rory MacDonald Says He ‘Froze in the Cage’ During Bellator 206 Defeat to Gegard Mousasi
Rory MacDonald was not competitive in the champion vs champion bout against Gegard Mousasi that served as the Bellator 206 headliner at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., on Saturday night.

“The Red King” inexplicably set himself up for failure by rolling underneath Mousasi for a takedown attempt – or possibly a leg lock -- in the second frame. That allowed Mousasi to assume top position, take full mount and finish the fight.
MacDonald took to Twitter on Sunday to address his performance, offering “no excuses” for the defeat.
“Last night was a tough one for me. Unfortunately I didn’t mentally show up ready to take on a competitive fight and froze in the cage,” MacDonald wrote. “In this sport you pay a high price if you’re not dialed in and ready to go. I have zero excuses, Gegard was a fantastic champion last night.”

MacDonald, who began his Bellator tenure with back-to-back triumphs over Paul Daley and Douglas Lima, will now enter the promotion’s welterweight grand prix against Jon Fitch at an as-yet-to-be determined date. MacDonald’s 170-pound belt will be on the line in that quarterfinal bout.
