Just one week after a disappointing loss at UFC Fight Night Ottawa, middleweight Sam Alvey has been booked for a quick return to the Octagon.
Alvey will be back in the cage on July 13, when he is slated to face unbeaten newcomer Eric Spicely at a UFC Fight Night event in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The bout was recently added to the event’s fight card on UFC.com.
Alvey never quite got started in his lackluster June 18 outing against Elias Theodorou, who took a unanimous decision over Alvey following 15 minutes of cagey striking. After scoring three straight knockouts to jump-start his UFC run, “Smile’n Sam” now finds himself on the fist losing streak of his career.
Spicely reached the semifinals on the current season of “The Ultimate Fighter” but was eliminated in last week’s episode with a first-round knockout from Andrew Sanchez. Officially, the Rhode Island native’s record remains unblemished at 8-0, with four wins by way of submission and two by stoppage.
The UFC’s first visit to South Dakota will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 from Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. Set to top the bill is a pivotal lightweight matchup between 155-pound contenders Tony Ferguson and Michael Chiesa.
