A pair of top-10 female bantamweights will clash on Aug. 8 when Sara McMann goes up against Amanda Nunes.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Monday announced the 135-pound matchup as part of UFC Fight Night “St. Preux vs. Teixeira.” A light heavyweight clash between Ovince St. Preux and Glover Teixeira headlines the event, which will air live on Fox Sports 1 from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
McMann, 34, began her pro career with seven straight victories but has suffered losses in two of her last three outings. Those defeats came against divisional queen Ronda Rousey and perennial ranker Miesha Tate, with a win over Lauren Murphy sandwiched in between. The Olympic wrestling silver medalist owns wins over the likes of Shayna Baszler and Tonya Evinger.
Nunes, 27, has emerged victorious from three of her four Octagon appearances, with all three wins coming by way of first-round stoppage. The Brazilian “Lioness” was defeated by Cat Zingano last September but rebounded in March by stopping Baszler with leg kicks in under two minutes.
