"Shamrock vs. Baroni" Play-by-Play

Sam Spengler (Pictures) vs. Seth Kleinbeck (Pictures)
Round 1
Spengler and Kleinbeck clinch with Spengler working for a takedown for the first three minutes of the bout. The fighters finally exchange with Spengler landing a punch and Kleinbeck answering with a punch-kick combination. Spengler turtled in North-South with Kleinbeck punching away to the bell. Sherdog.com scores the first round 10-9 for Kleinbeck.

Round 2
Kleinbeck opens with two kicks, one to the leg, one to the head. Kleinbeck opens with two kicks, one to the leg, one to the head. Spengler charges in and clinches. Kleinbeck lands a knee to the groin of Spengler. Referee Herb Dean steps in and allows Spengler to recover. Fight restarts after about two minutes. Spengler tries to clinch again but falls to his back with Kleinbeck quick to follow. Kleinbeck opens up with punches and Spengler, pinned against the fence, has no answer. Referee Dean intervenes at 2:55 giving Kleinbeck the TKO win.

Chris Cariaso (Pictures) vs. Anthony Figueroa (Pictures)
Round 1
Cariaso comes out throwing punchs, backing Figueroa up. Cariaso scores a takedown and tries to work from the top. Figueroa scrambles back to his feet. The fighters trade knees from the clinch, one underhook each. Cariaso gets the takedown from the clinch but can't do anything with it before the horn sounds. Cariaso takes an early lead on the Sherdog.com card 10-9.

Round 2
Fighters trading punches with Figueroa landing the better shots. Cariaso scores with a lead right. Figueroa gets the better of another exchange, landing the harder left hand. Figueroa scores again with a lunging combination of punches and a kick. The second frame goes to Figueroa 10-9 on the Sherdog card.

Round 3
Carioso delivers a crisp lead right to open the third round. Figueroa charges right in throwing wild shots. Rex Richards (Pictures) vs. Ray Seraille (Pictures)
Round 1
Richards overwhelms Seraille with punches. He charged forward landing at will. Seraille could not stand up to the onslaught and collapsed to the mat after a slew of unanwered punches. The official time came at just 34 seconds of the opening frame.

Jason Von Flue (Pictures) vs. Luke Stewart (Pictures)
Round 1
Stewart throwing a lot of kicks as the fight gets underway. Von Flue looking to counter, grabs a kick and throws a straight right that misses. Stewart lands a kick right on the cup of Von Flue. Referee Dean steps in and give "The Live Wire" time to recover. Von Flue signals he is ready to go and we are back underway. Stewart shoots but Von Flue locks up a guillotine. He doesn't come close to getting it against the BJJ black belt. Stewart gets back to his feet and scores a takedown slamming Von Flue to the mat. Stewart steps over into mount but Von Flue is sitting up against the cage and quickly gets back to his feet. Stewart sets up another takedown with punches and moves to side-control. Stewart trying to mount but Von Flue defends well. Stewart gets the mount with about 20 seconds to go in the first. Von Flue rolls out and Stewart slips off before the horn rings out the end of the first. Sherdog scores it 10-9 for Stewart.

Round 2
Round two starts with a vicious exchange as Stewart and Von Flue trade punches with little regard for defense. Von Flue catches another low blow and takes another referee break to recover. Von Flue bleeding from the left eye has his back taken while standing. Stewart gets both hooks in and flattens him out. Before he can work a choke, Von Flue turns into him. Stewart opens up with punches from the mount untill Dean comes to Von Flue's rescue at 2:17 of the third round.

Mike Pyle (Pictures) vs. Aaron Wetherspoon (Pictures)
Round 1
Wetherspoon moving forward lands the first meaningful shot of the fight with a nice right hand. Pyle clinches and tries to throw him but can't. Pyle changes levels and notches the takedown along the cage. He is in half-guard with Wetherspoon pinned against the fence. Pyle controlling well but not doing too much damage.Wetherspoon gets back to his feet but Pyle grasps for a double. Spoon twists away and escapes. Pyle looking winded but unleashes a spinning back kick. Wetherspoon finishes strong with with a flurry of punches in the rounds closing seconds. Sherdog scores the round 10-9 for Pyle.

Round 2
Pyle throws a low kick but Spoon answers with a two punch combination. Fighters feeling each other out inthe center of the cage. Pyle throwing lots of kicks. Wetherspoon connects with a nice right cross. Pyle scoring well with kicks to Wetherspoon's lead leg. Pyle lands a right hand-left high kick combo. Wetherspoon looking for single shots and not finding too much success. Round two and Sherdog scores it 10-9 for Pyle.

Round 3
Pyle jabs his way in but doesn't find his mark with his power punches. Wetherspoon, knowing he needs a strong finish, pressing the action a little more in the third. Bleeding from the nose, he pushes forward looking for a fight-ending shot. Spoon ducks under a punch and runs right into a knee from Pyle. Pyle taking over. He scores a takedown and starts to pound from half-guard. Wetherspoon tries to explode up but Pyle maintains control. Pyle traps Spoon's left arm behind his back leaving his only one arm to defend the big right hands that Pyle is unloading. The fight comes to a close and Pyle should have a dominating decision win. Sherdog scores it 30-27 for Pyle. The official ledger reads 30-27, 30-27 and 29-27.

Nikk Covert (Pictures) vs. Nik Theotikos (Pictures)
Round 1
Covert opens with a kick to the midsection instead of a touch of gloves. Theatikos clinches and goes after Covert with a knee to the midsection. Chants of "f--- him up" pour from on high, as Theotikos supporters cheer for him. The undefeated middleweight responds by blasting Covert with punches, ending his night early. Medical personnel have entered the ring and are attending to Covert, who still appears to be unconscious. A cervical brace has been placed has been placed around Covert's neck and he's strapped to a stretcher. EMT's carry Covert out and he appears to be responsive. His hands are moving. The official time of the knockout is 1:13 of round one.

James Edson Berto (Pictures) vs. Victor Valenzuela (Pictures)
Round 1
Berto lands a crushing right kick to the body. He follows by shooting in and taking the fight to ground. Berto falls back and forces a tap from a heel hook in the opening minute. The official time is 0:47 of the first frame.

Paul Buentello (Pictures) vs. Carter Williams (Pictures)
Round 1
Buentello comes out throwing and gets blasted with a Williams right hand. Williams takes Buentello down and cracks him with two right hands. Paul works back to his feet. Buentello and Williams clinch along the fence and trade knees to the body. Referee Steve Mazzagatti separates them and restarts the contest in the center of the cage. Williams shoots again but Paul has none of it. Buentello has won the opening minutes with his dirty boxing game. Again the referee restarts. Buentello with a few more knees. The pace slows. The UFC veteran tries a guillotine before trading some wild strikes to close the round. Sherdog.com sees it 10-9 for Buentello.

Round 2
Buentello hits Williams with a stiff jab and three uppercuts early in the round. The last of which hits Carter Williams directly in his left eye. Williams crumbles at just 0:10 of the second stage.

Joey Villasenor (Pictures) vs. Murilo Rua (Pictures)
Round 1
Villasenor throws a sharp jab that finds its target. The American rocks Rua with a hard left hook. "Ninja" scores a takedown but Villasenor quickly reverses the position and takes side-control. Villasenor lands a hard knee to the body and several punches. Rua improves position and drops back for a leg. Villasenor escapes and gets back to his feet. "Ninja" lands a right kick to the body before scoring another takedown. Rua moves to side-control. Joey works to his feet. Rua steps forward and lands a right hand before tackling the American again. Kimura attempt from Rua before the round ends. 10-9 for Rua on the Sherdog.com score card.

Round 2
The Brazilian explodes a flying knee into Villasenor's midsection. "Ninja" tees off with punches. "Ninja" drops Villaseor with a straight right hand counter and then adds several strikes to his downed opponent. "Ninja" claims the promotion's middleweight crown at 1:05 of the second round.

Josh Thomson (Pictures) vs. Nick Gonzalez (Pictures)
Round 1
Thomson lands a left high kick followed by a "superman punch." Thomson secures a takedown and immediately hops on Gonzalez's back. "The Punk" looks for a rear naked choke. Gonzalez tries to fight his way out of danger but Thomson sinks in his arm under Nick's chin. Gonzalez taps at 1:42 of the opening period.

Cung Le (Pictures) vs. Tony Fryklund (Pictures)
Round 1
Cung Le gets busy with kicks from the start. He lands a left head kick and a sharp right kick to the body. Le opens up with his hands. The San Jose native scores with a beautiful left kick to the body followed by a right head kick. Fryklund looks completely outclassed. Another hard kick to the body. Le continues to tee off as he drops his opponent with a right hand. Back spin kick to the head lands for Le. And another. Right spin kick to the body lands. Le faints with the same technique and follows with a left spin kick that hurt Fryklund. Le takes the first round 10-8 on the Sherdog.com score card.

Round 2
Cung Le continues to pick Fryklund apart with flashy kicks with a few punches mixed in. Le is breathing hard while 3 minutes remain in the round. Despite the punishment, Fryklund looks fresh and game. Left hand lead scores for the Californian. Fryklund lands his first meaningful strike of the bout in the way of a short punch flurry. Fryklund lands a right hand. Le is tired. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Cung Le.

Round 3
Le finally puts Fryklund away with a barrage of kicks and a right hand set up by a snapping body kick at 0:25 of the third round.

Frank Shamrock (Pictures) vs. Phil Baroni (Pictures)
Round 1
Baroni clinches with Shamrock and attacks his body against the cage. Baroni takes Shamrock down but Phil stands back up. Both fighters land hard punches. Shamrock lands a brutal right hand that drops Baroni. The "NYBA" is hurt. Shamrock hits the back of Baroni's head and a point is taken. The fight restarts to standing in the center of the cage. Phil shoots in and tackles Shamrock. Baroni now works from Shamrock's guard. Back to their feet. Again Shamrock crumbles Baroni with punches. Stiff jab for Shamrock. Counter right hand drills Baroni. Shamrock taunts Phil before cracking him again. Baroni takes a few jabs before scoring a gutsy takedown. Baroni may survive the opening period. The horn sounds. 10-8 (9-8 due to the dropped point) for Shamrock.

Round 2
Baroni lands a right hand. And another. Phil seems to have recovered from the first round thrashing. Shamrock breaths heavy just 90 seconds into the second frame. Shamrock lands a punch combo. Baroni gains momentum with a hard right hand body shot. Frank is spent. Baroni lands a hard right hand. Shamrock answers with a right of his own. Shamrock lands a right and a left that hurt Phil. Baroni shoots but Shamrock sprawls. Frank hops on Shamrock's back and looks for the rear naked choke. He chokes Baroni out cold. Phil does not tap. Incredible performance from both athletes. Baroni congratulates Shamrock after waking up from his brief nap.

Paul Daley (Pictures) vs. Duane Ludwig (Pictures)
Round 1
Daley fires a hard right body kick at Ludwig. Daley shoots in but Ludwig checks it with underooks. The fighters cancel each other out with their well matched games. Ludwig presses forward and lands a knee to the gut of Daley. Sherdog.com scores the boring opening frame 10-9 for Daley.

Round 2
Daley lands a lead leg kick to the head. He follows with a crisp right hand. Daley lands another right and some follow up strikes on the ground that puts Ludwig down for the night. The official time is 0:42 of the second staza.
