“Shaolin” Ribeiro has signed a multi-fight contract with
Strikeforce to join the promotion’s lightweight ranks.
Mike Afromowitz, Strikeforce’s director of communications, confirmed the signing of the Brazilian Thursday. Afromowitz did not know when Ribeiro would make his promotional debut.
Ribeiro, 30, lost a unanimous decision to Shinya Aoki in the welterweight grand prix finals at Dream 10 on July 20 in Saitama, Japan. However, the Nova Uniao Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt boasts an impressive record, with key victories over Tatsuya Kawajiri, Joachim Hansen, and Mitsuhiro Ishida.
Ribeiro’s three career losses have come at the hands of Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante, Aoki, and in a rematch with Kawajiri.
Afromowitz said he was uncertain if Ribeiro is still contracted with Dream as well. However, the two promotions share an active talent-exchange relationship.
