Well-traveled middleweights Matt Horwich and Danillo “Indio” Villefort will square off in the main event of Shark Fights’ first show of 2011.

The Texas-based promotion today announced the headliner for Shark Fights 14, which takes place March 11 at the 5,300-seat Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas. No further bouts were revealed for what is scheduled to be a 15-fight card.

“Not only is the fight card stacked with exciting fights, [but] ‘Big’ John McCarthy will be the official referee in charge,” Shark Fights President Brent Medley stated in a release. “We are also in negotiations with a major network as we speak and hope to secure a nationally televised deal.”

Villefort, 27, enters the matchup on a three-fight win streak and has not lost since his sudden release from the UFC in August 2008. Last year, the American Top Team representative knocked out Brazilian prospect Cassiano “Tytschyo” de Freitas in a February bout before earning a unanimous decision over Stikeforce veteran Joey Villasenor at September’s Shark Fights 13.

One of the sport’s most colorful personalities, 32-year-old Horwich has found mixed results since his own split from the UFC in April 2009. The onetime International Fight League middleweight champion has alternated wins and losses in his last four outings, scoring major stoppage wins against Jake Rosholt (in his most recent bout) and Thales Leites and, while dropping decisions to Tom Watson and Eric Schambari. Horwich’s 26-17-1 ledger contains 20 submission victories and wins over such notable names as Benji Radach, Krzysztof Soszynski and Mike Pyle.
