Sherk-Oliveira Signed for UFC 108

Sean Sherk has signed on to face Rafaello Oliveira in a lightweight bout at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas. was the first to report the matchup on Thursday and Sherk confirmed the news to

Sherk, a former UFC lightweight champion, withdrew from his bout against Gleison Tibau at UFC 104 on Oct. 24 in Los Angeles with a “Grade II AC separation” shoulder injury. Sherk told Thursday that the injury has rehabilitated well.

The 36-year-old Minnesota wrestler will be out to right the ship after dropping two of his last three bouts. Sherk lost a unanimous decision to upstart Frankie Edgar at UFC 98 last May and was unsuccessful in his bid to win back the lightweight title from B.J. Penn at UFC 84 in May 2008. Sherk earned a unanimous decision over Tyson Griffin at UFC 90 in October 2008.

Oliveira lost his Octagon debut to Sherk’s training partner, Nik Lentz, via a unanimous decision at UFC 103 last September. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist has won nine of his 11 career bouts.
