Shields-Fitch Booked for WSOF 11; Aguilar Defends Belt Against Fujino at WSOF 10

The World Series of Fighting has booked a pair of new, high-profile matchups.

Promotion officials Friday announced that Jake Shields will face Jon Fitch on July 5 at WSOF 11. Two weeks prior, Jessica Aguilar will put her strawweight belt on the line against Emi Fujino at WSOF 10, which takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Both events air live on NBC Sports Network.

Shields, 35, recently exited the UFC following a unanimous decision defeat to Hector Lombard on March 15. Prior to that setback, the former Strikeforce middleweight king had won two straight fights, scoring split decision wins over Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia last year.

Fitch was originally expected to challenge welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares at the event, but that booking was scrapped last week. Like Shields, Fitch is a former UFC title challenger known for his durability and grappling skills. The American Kickboxing Academy standout was last seen in October, when he outpointed Marcelo Alfaya at WSOF 6.

Aguilar, 31, has not lost since September 2010 and made her promotional debut on Jan. 18, submitting Alida Gray with a first-round arm-triangle choke at WSOF 8. “Jag” owns eight of her 17 wins via submission and has been finished just once in her eight-year career.

Fujino, 33, dropped a unanimous decision to highly-regarded prospect Mizuki Inoue in her most recent outing, a setback that snapped a two-fight winning streak for “The Kamikaze Angel.” The Japanese talent previously contended for the Jewels 115-pound title in 2012 and has submitted six of her 13 victims inside the distance.
