Amir Imam vs. Fernando Angulo

Round 1

Angulo is the first to land as his loopy left hook glances off Imam’s head. Imam fires off a triple jab, keeping a distance and waiting to strike. Angulo ducks down very low and is popped by an overhand right. Angulo unloads a five-punch flurry but everything is dodged. Imam sticks with the jab, keeping his foe away. Imam counters Angulo’s left hand with a left hook with a minute left. Angulo tries to sucker Imam into a wild brawl, but virtually every one of his punches misses. Right over the top, followed by a nasty left to the body from the "Young Master" just before the bell.

Round 2

Imam lands a few jabs and easily avoids Angulo’s attacks. Angulo is jabbed in the teeth, but retaliates with a loopy overhand right. His follow-up left misses. Imam is extremely calm, using his jab and height to offset Angulo’s attacks. Angulo continues to try and bull his way in, winging wild shots from everywhere, but he can’t land anything. Imam counters the attempts with a straight right through the guard. A few more jabs from Imam before they clinch at the bell.

Round 3

Angulo is right in Imam’s face, throwing more wild shots. A nice left hand finds a home for Angulo but it’s short-lived; Imam counters with a jab and then a right to the head. Imam resets and jabs to the body. They trade right hands upstairs but Imam’s is much harder. Angulo presses forward and pins Imam ina corner and flails away. Angulo digs to the arms and body before Imam tags him with a nice right uppercut. Imam escape, resets and nails his foe with a short left hook as Angulo plows inside. The punch rocks him but he still throws haymakers. Imam with another left hand before the bell.

Round 4

Imam pops him with an overhand right but Angulo comes right after him. Imam smothers him and then separates. Angulo tries to come back inside but Imam unloads a textbook left/right. His right hand explodes on contact, sending Angulo face first onto the canvas, out cold. An absolute highlight reel knockout for one of boxing’s best young prospects.

McJoe Arroyo vs. Arthur Villanueva

Round 1

They come right out to the center of the ring, but remain cautious. They paw with their jabs, looking for openings. Villanueva lands a few jabs and then a right before clinching. Hared overhand left by Arroyo after landing a right to the body. Villanueva misses two loopy rights to the head. Arroyo counters them with a left to the ribs. They swing wildly for a brief moment but nothing lands form either. Arroyo gets a right hand around the gloves but Villanueva answers with a straight left. Very close round; could go to either man.

Round 2

Arroyo is more measured to start the frame, pawing with his jab. Villanueva continues to be more active with his shots, but still nothing hard lands. Arroyo sticks a right to the ribs but misses with his left to the face. Villanueva lands a right to the head but misses with the follow-up left. Arroyo is landing his southpaw jab more frequently now with a minute left. Villanueva misses a wild left hand and is countered by a right to the midsection. Another very close round.

Round 3

Villanueva remains more active but he is lunging forward with his right to the body. Arroyo remains poised and in a compact shell, looking for openings behind his jab. Villanueva comes forward, pawing with his jab, but can’t get his powerful overhand right to land. Left/right through the guard for Villanueva midway through the frame. Arroyo has become more passive than before as Villanueva is much more active. The lack of offense cost Arroyo the round.

Round 4

t defensive shell. Arroyo continues to bide his time, tossing the jab out there and not much else. Villanueva remains more active but nothing is getting through the guard with a minute left. Villanueva continuously charges in with punches, misses, and then is tied up. The crowd is growing restless with the lack of action. They trade some leather at the bell, with Arroyo landing a left hook on the inside. Again, another round that could go either way.

Round 5

Villanueva is trying to make it more of a brawl but Arroyo won’t allow it. Arroyo remains cautious with the jab, not giving away anything. Very little action throughout the round until Arroyo finally lands a decent left hand with about 15 seconds left. They clinch and clash heads again and referee Rafael Ramos warns them both to be more mindful.

Round 6

Arroyo comes out a little harder with his jab and straight left. Villanueva throws a few hard rights, but they are partially blocked. They come together with the heads again and Ramos calls time. He deducts a point from Villanueva, which seems a little soon. The fight resumes and Villanueva is more eager to get things going. Villanueva lands a nice left hand to the head at the midway point. They trade blows and come together again, and this time Villanueva is cut over his right eye. Good left to the head by Arroyo at the bell.

Round 7

The round begins and they trade blows, but the cut is pretty bad on Villanueva’s eye. The fight is stopped for it to be examined but he is allowed to continue. Nice left/right to the head from the hard-charging Villanueva. Arroyo comes back with a straight left to the face and then they clash heads again. They clash yet again and Ramos warns Villanueva to keep his head up, even though virtually every clash of heads is because of both fighters. Arroyo comes in with a left, clinches and their heads come together again. Nice loopy left hand from Arroyo near the bell.

Round 8

ft to the head but they instantly clinch. Villanueva tries to come forward with a three-punch flurry but Arroyo avoids it. Villanueva continues to try make it a brawl but Arroyo clinches whenever they get close. Arroyo tags him with a lead left but eats a right cross in return. They clinch immediately following the exchange and their heads come together. Villanueva ducks in to land to the body but is pelted with a left onto his forehead. They wrestle at the bell.

Round 9

Villanueva fires off three punches to the body right away and Arroyo counters with a left to the dome. Villanueva is more active as usual but he’s finally landing some decent shots. Arroyo is still in his shell, throwing the jab. Arroyo resumes his clinch game whenever Villanueva gets too close. Ramos hasn’t warned him for the excessive holding yet. Arroyo lands a decent right to the face as Villanueva comes in but the Filipino answers with a right of his own before being clinched. Arroyo comes in for a body shot and clinches again.

Round 10

Villanueva storms out and lands a nice double left hook. The second hook causes Arroyo to stumble back and then clinch. Arroyo backs up as Villanueva chases him down but McJoe has cleared his head. Villanueva attacks to the body and arroyo clinches. They separate, Villanueva tries to brawl and Arroyo clinches again. Villanueva comes in but Arroyo tags him with a sharp left to the jaw. Arroyo is starting to be a little more active late, tossing out the jab and overhand left. Villanueva is still pressing the action but after a mutual clinch, Villanueva has his cut inspected again. The doctor informs Ramos that Villanueva can’t go on and the fight is over. It will go to the scorecards because the cut was from an accidental clash of heads.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Marcos Reyes

Round 1

Chavez backs up early as Reyes is patient with his jab. Chavez circles several times, not letting his hands go. Reyes isn’t doing much himself, but he is flicking out that jab. Chavez looks very hesitant even when he throws his jab. Reyes lands a glancing right cross but it’s not hard. Reyes digs a left to the body and Chavez backs away. Chavez throws an overhand right after taking another left to the ribs. Chavez lands a left but eats a right at the bell.

Round 2

They clinch immediately and Chavez complains about a low blow. Reyes backs off and then cracks him with a right downstairs. Reyes doubles up the jab, keeping Chavez confused early. Chavez starts to come forward, but he throws only a meager right to the arm. Reyes lands a right to the face and then a left low. Chavez pins him in the corner and lands s nice left hook, his best punch thus far. Reyes regroups and lands a few jabs as Chavez again opts to back away without anything in return. Chavez springs into action and nails Reyes with a powerful right hand and then a left to the body. Reyes says he was hit below the belt and is given time to regroup. Reyes digs two to the body when they resume. Hard right cross by Chavez at the bell is clean, but Reyes takes it well.

Round 3

Reyes snaps out a double jab to start the round. Chavez backs up and is pelted by a right to the ribs. Reyes is much more active and is stalking Chavez down, flicking hands to the head and body routinely. Chavez is not throwing anything in return until a minute in. Hard left to the liver by Chavez and it hurts Reyes, who falls into the ropes. Chavez tears into him and lands a right to the face before Reyes exits. Reyes is cut near his left eye. Chavez is stalking Reyes now and Marco backs into the ropes and then a corner. Chavez lands a decent left to the body and Reyes is in trouble. It’s evident that Chavez is far too large for Reyes to handle. Julio tags him with a right/left to the head and then a right to the body at the bell.

Round 4

Reyes is bouncing around, flicking out his jab but he lack of power is obvious. Chavez tracks him down and pins him in the corner, where he unloads a few powerful shots to the body. Nice left and hard right by Reyes, followed by another right at the midway point. Reyes ducks under a right and pops him with a right in return. Chavez is walking after Reyes, just following him. Julio goes to the body again, but Reyes quickly moves off the ropes. Right uppercut/left hook by Reyes is partially blocked. Chavez tries to rally but time expires.

Round 5

Reyes’s left cheek is badly swelling early and Chavez hits it with a right. Chavez is taking his time as usual, waiting for Reyes to over-commit. Reyes peppers him with jabs and random shots to the body as Chavez blocks and circles. Reyes triples up the jab but his sweeping right hand misses. With a minute left, Chavez misses with a wild right hand and is quickly countered by a right to the head. Another. Reyes snaps his foe’s head back with a sharp jab. Marco pops him with another right through the guard. Chavez nails him with a few jabs with 10 seconds left. Reyes goes to the body at the bell but Chavez complains that he was hit low.

Round 6

Hard lead left hook by Chavez right away but Reyes takes it. Reyes goes to the body and then jabs to the face. Chavez lands two hooks to the body as he walks Reyes into the ropes before Marco escapes. They briefly go forehead-to-forehead and exchange punches to the midsection. Julio nails him with a right uppercut/left hook, but he didn’t put much force into them. Reyes moves to southpaw for a few moments but switches back to conventional. Reyes is very active with the jabs. Chavez comes alive with 10 seconds left and unloads a barrage of punches in the corner. He tags him with a right/left and then another right before the bell ends the round.

Round 7

Reyes shoeshines the body just as the round starts but Chavez smiles at him. Chavez comes inside and they clash heads, but nobody is cut. Reyes is on his bike early as Chavez just walks after him. Julio pins him in the ropes and unfurls a flurry to the body. Chavez follows him back into the ropes and throws a multi-punch combo to the head and body. Chavez is starting to take full control of the action now, digging a right/left to the gut and then a left hook to the cranium. Reyes absorbs another left to the body before swallowing a right hand. Reyes is not willing to engage and instead is retreating whenever he can. Chavez digs yet another mean left to the body and then closes the round with a left to the head. All Chavez.

Round 8

Reyes starts the round with a few jabs and then a right upstairs. Chavez again is patient but he does take to the body again. Reyes continues to be mostly on his bike, trying to keep the larger of the Mexicans at bay. Reyes is landing some nice jabs as Chavez has stopped throwing punches. Chaves springs back to life with about a minute left but he’s not able to land much. Reyes backs himself into a corner where Chavez tears into his body. Reyes pops off a few shots up top before exiting the corner, to the center of the ring. Some more jabs by Reyes win him the round just because Chavez did nothing.

Round 9

Chavez comes after Reyes early and nails him with a left hook to the ear. Reyes backs into a corner but Chaves can’t keep him there. Chavez pins him in a corner and plugs away at the head and body but Reyes covers up. They clash heads during an exchange and Chavez is cut on his left eyelid. Chavez is complaining to the ref and to Reyes and is examined by the ringside doctor. Out of nowhere, referee Guadalupe Garcia decides to take a point from Reyes. When the fight resumes, Chavez chases after him, gunning for a knockout. Reyes backs up and covers up, preventing punishment from landing. With a minute left, Chavez is still in pursuit but Reyes pecks away with the jab. Reyes is on his bike, trying to catch Chavez coming in. Chavez digs a few shots to the body before the bell.

Round 10

Robert Garcia is yelling at Chavez that they need to finish strong. Realistically, Reyes likely needs to score a knockout to win. Chaves backs up to start the stanza as Reyes comes forward, jabbing with caution. Reyes pounds a right and left to Chavez’s ribs. Chavez has done nothing for the first minute of the frame, allowing Reyes to jab and move. Reyes pecks away with some right hands and jabs but he is not doing any damage. Chavez crushes Reyes with a right to the belly and it hurts him. Reyes backs off, on his bike. With a minute left, Reyes needs a miracle. He nails Julio with a left hook while Chavez complains to the ref. Chavez comes after him but Marco cracks him with two more hard shots to the ribs. They swing wildly at the bell and Reyes misses a hellacious right hand and falls onto his face. It’s correctly ruled a slip.
