Jason High has been forced out of a planned UFC Fight Night 35 clash with Beneil Dariush due to a ruptured appendix.

High announced his ailment via Twitter on Thursday morning, posting a picture of himself in a hospital recovery room. Sherdog.com then confirmed with a source close to the bout that Charlie Brenneman will return to the UFC to replace High at the Jan. 15 event. MMAJunkie.com first reported Brenneman’s UFC return, though promotion officials have not yet announced the booking. UFC Fight Night 35 takes place at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga., and is headlined by a middleweight showdown pitting former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold against Costas Philippou.

Brenneman has won four straight fights since receiving his UFC release last year on the heels of back-to-back defeats. “The Spaniard” finished three of his four victims in that span, most recently tapping Bellator alum Kyle Baker with an arm-triangle choke this past October.

High, 32, posted back-to-back Octagon victories after stumbling in his UFC debut, scoring a quick submission of James Head this past August before outpointing Anthony Lapsley on Nov. 16 at UFC 167. “The Kansas City Bandit” has won nine of his last 10 bouts, four of which he ended inside the distance.

Adlan Amagov was initially expected to face High at the event before being replaced by Dariush last week for undisclosed reasons. The 24-year-old Dariush has been perfect thus far in his pro career and will make his Octagon debut on the strength of six consecutive victories.
