Victory Fighting Championship is set to invade Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska, on Saturday, July 22 and a pair of welterweights are slated to clash in a pivotal showdown.
According to a source close to the promotion, longtime veteran Dakota Cochrane will square off against rising contender Maki Pitolo in the main event of VFC 58, which will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
Cochrane has been fighting professionally for nearly a decade. He rose to prominence when he was beaten in the elimination round of The Ultimate Fighter 15. From there, he bounced around the regional circuit, racking up several wins before signing with Titan Fighting Championships. After a win for that promotion, Cochrane spent the bulk of his career for the now-defunct rection-Fighting-Alliance-4265">Resurrection Fighting Alliance, where he challenged for the inaugural lightweight title. The Nebraska native, who also fought for Bellator MMA, has won his last four, three via submission.
Though he struggled a bit out of the gate when he turned pro, Pitolo has been on a tear. “Coconut Bomz” won seven in a row, with five of those triumphs coming by way of submission or knockout. He won his first three bouts under the VFC banner, but the Hawaiian was knocked out in the second round by Kassius Holdorf in his last outing, which was in December.
VFC will announce a co-featured bout and a full undercard in the near future.
