Highly regarded South Korean prospect
Dong Hyun Kim (Pictures) will be making his UFC debut in the welterweight division sometime in either March or April, according to a report Friday by Mfight.
Kim originally started off his career in Spirit MC, but really established himself by sending reigning DEEP welterweight champion,
Hidehiko Hasegawa (Pictures), into a state of unconsciousness in a non-title affair. He fought to a highly controversial draw in their ensuing rematch, which many thought Kim should have won.
Kim, who stands close to 6-foot-2, has trained with the likes of
Yushin Okami (Pictures) and walks around at the same weight as the UFC stalwart. He is a well rounded fighter with penetrating strikes from the southpaw stance and a solid -- if underutilized --ground ground game.
Kim's debut should add some international piquancy in a stacked division. Kim also has the potential to help the UFC enter the Korean market, where it does not have much of a footing as compared to K-1.
