The career paths of two gifted young heavyweights cross as the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to England for the first time in nearly a year.
Stefan Struve tipped the scales at 251 pounds for his high-stakes matchup with the undefeated Stipe Miocic (239) in the UFC on Fuel TV 5 main event on Saturday at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England. The 10 other men locked into duty on the main card, welterweight co-headliners Dan Hardy (169) and Amir Sadollah (169) included, also met their contracted weight requirements without incident at Friday’s official weigh-in.

The tallest competitor in UFC history at 7-feet, Struve will carry a three-fight winning streak into the cage. The 24-year-old Dutchman last appeared at UFC 146 in May, when he needed just 65 seconds to submit Strikeforce veteran Lavar Johnson with an armbar at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A Bob Schrijber protégé, Struve sports 22 finishes among his 24 professional victories, 16 of them by submission. He holds an 8-3 mark in the UFC.
A former Golden Gloves boxing champion who wrestled collegiately at Cleveland State University, Miocic has secured seven of his nine career wins by knockout or technical knockout. The 30-year-old Strong Style Fight Team export has not competed since he put away Shane del Rosario with a series of second-round elbows four months ago at UFC 146. Long lauded as one of the heavyweight division’s most promising prospects, Miocic has won all three of his fights inside the Octagon.
UFC on Fuel TV 5 “Struve vs. Miocic” -- which airs on Fuel TV at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT -- will also feature a bantamweight battle pitting Brad Pickett (135) against Yves Jabouin (136), a lightweight duel matching Paul Sass (156) against Matt Wiman (156) and a pair of welterweight bouts, as John Hathaway (169) meets John Maguire (169) and Che Mills (170) locks horns with Duane Ludwig (169).
The five preliminary fights will stream live to the UFC’s Facebook page at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT: Jimi Manuwa (204) vs. Kyle Kingsbury (204), Andy Ogle (144) vs. Akira Corassani (144), Tom Watson (186) vs. Brad Tavares (185), Gunnar Nelson (*175) vs. DaMarques Johnson (*183) and Jason Young (145) vs. Robbie Peralta (144).
