Steven Siler Replaces Akira Corassani, Faces Mike Brown at UFC on Fox Sports 1

Akira Corassani has suffered a training injury and will not compete as expected against Mike Thomas Brown at UFC on Fox Sports 1 “Shogun vs. Sonnen.”

Stepping in for Corassani will be fellow “The Ultimate Fighter 14” alumnus Steven Siler, who now collides with Brown at the Aug. 17 event.

UFC on Fox Sports 1 “Shogun vs. Sonnen” takes place at TD Garden in Boston and is headlined by a titular light heavyweight duel pitting former champion Mauricio Rua against ex-title contender Chael Sonnen. The event airs live on Fox Sports 1 and will also see Alistair Overeem take on Travis Browne in a battle of heavyweights.

Siler, 26, has won four of five bouts since his “TUF 14” stint, beginning that stretch with a unanimous decision over cast mate Josh Clopton at the live finale. Victories over Cole Miller and Joey Gambino would follow for the Californian, who suffered his first Octagon defeat to Darren Elkins last November at UFC 154. Siler returned to his winning ways in his most recent outing, outpointing Kurt Holobaugh on April 27 at UFC 159.

Brown returns to action after spending more than a year on the sideline. The former WEC champion began his Octagon career with a pair of decision defeats but responded with wins in his last two UFC outings, first outpointing Nam Phan to close out 2011 before doing the same to Daniel Pineda in May 2012. The 37-year-old owns 18 of his 26 victories by either knockout or submission and has been knocked out just twice in 34 pro outings.
