Strikeforce’s first stop of 2010 will at the BankAtlantic Center in
Sunrise, Fla., the promotion announced in a press release on
Thursday.
Strikeforce middleweight (145-pound) women’s champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos is slated to appear on the card, as well as a debuting Herschel Walker.
Santos, 24, battered Gina Carano to a first-round technical knockout at Strikeforce “Carano vs. Cyborg” on Aug. 15 in San Jose, Calif. The bout marked the first time a women’s bout had anchored a major U.S. event.
The 47-year-old Walker, a Heisman Trophy winner in 1982, turned heads with his signing to Strikeforce last September. Walker, a six-degree Tae Kwon Do black belt, said that he’s always had a propensity for martial arts. He reportedly began a 12-week training camp with the American Kickboxing Academy in October.
