Three-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships medalist Andre Galvao will meet fellow Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Jorge Patino in a preliminary welterweight matchup at Strikeforce “Houston” on Saturday at the Toyota Center in Houston. Strikeforce officials have finalized an 11-bout lineup for the event, which airs live on Showtime.

One of the most accomplished grapplers ever to transition to mixed martial arts, Galvao won a split decision from Luke Stewart in his promotional debut at Strikeforce Challengers 7 in March. The seven-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion has secured three of his first four wins by submission and reached the semi-finals in the 2009 Dream welterweight grand prix. Galvao, 27, owns wins over Xtreme Couture Mixed Martial Arts standout John Alessio and Bellator Fighting Championships veteran Mikey Gomez.

Patino has not fought since he dropped a unanimous decision to UFC veteran Roan Carneiro under the Shine Fights banner in September 2009. The 37-year-old owns a 2003 knockout victory over the world-ranked Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Thirteen of his 20 career wins have come via KO, technical knockout or submission.

The Galvao-Patino bout will be streamed live on Sherdog.com, along with the undercard matchup between recently crowned King of the Cage heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Jason Riley.

A light heavyweight title bout pairing champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal with Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante will headline Strikeforce “Houston,” along with a showdown pitting Souza against Tim Kennedy for the vacant middleweight crown. The event will also feature a lightweight duel matching former EliteXC champion K.J. Noons with UFC veteran Jorge Gurgel and a heavyweight scrap between former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Bobby Lashley and Chad Griggs.
