Heavyweights Dave Herman and Stefan Struve will collide when the UFC holds its first live event on Fuel TV.
Sherdog.com confirmed the matchup with a source close to the bout on Thursday night. MMAWeekly.com first reported the booking on Wednesday. Headlined by a pivotal welterweight scrap between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez, UFC on Fuel 1 is expected to go down Feb. 15 from the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb.
The tallest man in the UFC, Struve has won three of his last five. The nine-time UFC veteran has posted a 6-3 promotional record during his Octagon stint thus far, earning notable wins over Denis Stojnic, Christian Morecraft and Sean McCorkle. Struve, 23, most recently submitted kickboxing ace Pat Barry with a triangle choke at UFC Live 6 on Oct. 1. The 6'11” Dutchman holds 15 of his 22 career wins by submission.
A veteran of Sengoku, Bellator and EliteXC competition, Herman recently made his UFC debut in June against Norwegian submission specialist John Olav Einemo. Both men threw their ground skills out the window at UFC 131, engaging in a thrilling slugfest that ended with Herman's hand raised. The 27-year-old was supposed to return to the cage on Oct. 8 against Mike Russow, but was not allowed to compete when his pre-fight drug screen came back positive for marijuana. Herman publicly denied use of the banned substance after the results were revealed.
