‘Stun Gun’-Pierson Welterweight Tilt Tabbed for UFC 141
Welterweights Dong Hyun
Kim and Sean Pierson
will each be looking to start new winning streaks when they meet at
the Ultimate
Fighting Championship’s year-end event.
UFC officials Monday announced that Kim and Pierson have agreed to square off Dec. 30 at UFC 141, expected to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Likely to headline the pay-per-view bill is a five-round
heavyweight contender bout between former UFC champ Brock
Lesnar and ex-Strikeforce titleholder Alistair
Overeem.
Kim had his previously perfect record blemished in July when he was stopped in vicious fashion by Carlos Condit at UFC 132. Prior to that first-round knockout, the 29-year-old Korean “Stun Gun” had compiled a 14-0-1 record, including UFC victories over Nate Diaz and Amir Sadollah.
Pierson, 35, also had a solid streak snapped recently, as his April knockout at the hands of Jake Ellenberger broke the Canadian’s string of six straight wins. An MMA veteran of nearly 12 years, Pierson made his long-awaited UFC debut in December 2010, notching a unanimous decision over the less experienced Matt Riddle.
