Surging Welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio Calls Out Donald Cerrone for Showdown in Chile

In May, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to hold their first ever event in Chile and many South American fighters are putting their hands up to feature in this historic event, including surging welterweight contender Santiago Ponzinibbio. The Argentine is on a six-fight winning streak with notable victories over top competition, including Mike Perry and Gunnar Nelson.

Ponzinibbio spoke with MMAFighting.com about the event in Chile and who he’d like to fight:

“The best options are Thompson and Cerrone because of their fighting styles. It would be a great show against either one of them, but Thompson is saying that he’s injured. After such a beautiful performance last night, Cerrone would be a great option.”

“I was watching Cerrone’s fight last night and he was really impressive. It was a good knockout. He has a lot of knockouts, and I think it would be a fun fight for the fans. Cerrone and I could do a fight that will go down in history, in an event that will already make history in Chile.”

While Ponzinibbio may want to fight Cerrone in Chile, the Argentine competes in the welterweight division and may not be aware that “Cowboy” spoke after his win against Yancy Medeiros about his desire to move back down to lightweight.
