Swick Could Replace Koscheck at UFC 109

Mike Swick has offered to step in for injured teammate Josh Koscheck, who withdrew from a welterweight rematch against Paulo Thiago at UFC 109 on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, Sherdog.com has confirmed with Swick’s camp.

MMAFighting.com was the first to report the news on Monday. A representative from AKA told Sherdog.com that the camp is awaiting word from the promotion, though chances of the proposed switch looked “good.”

Koscheck, who would have had the opportunity to avenge his first-round technical knockout loss to Thiago at UFC 95 last February in London, confirmed his withdrawal on his Twitter account Monday but did not identify his injury.

“I will be good to go back to training in a couple weeks I hope,” Koscheck posted.

The 30-year-old Swick, who trains alongside Koscheck at AKA, lost a unanimous decision to Brit Dan Hardy in a pivotal contender’s bout at UFC 105 on Nov. 14 in Manchester, England.

Thiago grinded out a unanimous decision over UFC newcomer Jacob Volkmann at UFC 106 on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas. The Brazilian’s only career defeat came at the hands of Jon Fitch, also an AKA product, at UFC 100 last July in Las Vegas.
