Former Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight titleholder T.J. Dillashaw will get the chance to avenge one of the three losses on his ledger when he meets the returning Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200.
UFC officials on Tuesday announced the matchup, which will take place July 9 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Dillashaw was 8-1 when first he ran up against Assuncao in October 2013. Although Assuncao took home a controversial split decision, Dillashaw would go on to capture the UFC bantamweight title just two bouts later when he upset Renan Barao. The Team Alpha Male fighter twice defended the belt before having it taken by Dominick Cruz on Jan. 17.
Assuncao followed his win against Dillashaw with unanimous decision victories over Bryan Caraway and Pedro Munhoz. The 33-year-old Brazilian was on his way to fighting for UFC gold before being sidelined with a recurring ankle injury. Assuncao has not set foot in the cage since October 2014.
UFC 200 is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between former champion and current interim titlist Jon Jones and current champ Daniel Cormier. Additional championship bouts will see Miesha Tate defend her women’s bantamweight title against Amanda Nunes, while Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar will vie for the interim featherweight belt.
