‘TUF 11’ Contestant Philippou to Face Catone at UFC 128

By Mike Whitman Mar 12, 2011
In light of Dan Miller's promotion to the main card of UFC 128, Nick Catone will now face “Ultimate Fighter 11” alum Costantinos Philippou in a preliminary 195-pound catchweight duel, the promotion announced Saturday.

UFC 128 goes down March 19 from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and will be headlined by a light heavyweight title affair between champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and red-hot prospect Jon Jones.

The card will also feature a pivotal bantamweight duel, as former WEC champions Urijah Faber and Eddie Wineland make their respective UFC debuts.

A product of the Serra-Longo fight camp, Philippou (Pictured) has fought exclusively in the Ring of Combat promotion since beginning his career with a split decision defeat to Ricardo Romero in 2008. Since that loss in his debut, the New Yorker has won seven straight bouts, knocking out four of his fallen foes along the way.

Catone has seen his ups and downs in the UFC, earning a 2-2 record with the promotion since his Octagon debut in 2009. Following his submission victory over Derek Downey at UFC Fight Night 17, the 29-year-old suffered back-to-back defeats, losing to Tim Credeur and Mark Munoz later that year.

“The Jersey Devil” would rebound from the setbacks, however, notching a split decision victory over Jesse Forbes in his most recent outing one year ago at UFC Fight Night 20. Since that win, Catone has twice been scheduled to compete, but each time he has been forced to withdraw from his bouts due to injury.
