UFC officials recently announced the newest addition to ““The Ultimate Fighter” Season 16 finale, as lightweights Melvin Guillard and Jamie Varner will collide at the Dec. 15 event.
The show takes place at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and is headlined by a heavyweight clash between “TUF 16” coaches Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin. The evening’s main draw airs live on the FX network and will also see the two “TUF 16” finalists lock horns to determine the latest winner of the long-running reality series.
Guillard, 29, has lost three of his last four fights after posting five consecutive victories from February 2010 to July 2011. Known for his athleticism and punching power, “The Young Assassin” collected his last victory on July 7, when he outpointed Fabricio Camoes at UFC 148. Most recently, the 44-fight veteran was knocked out by former teammate Donald Cerrone on Aug. 11 at UFC 150.
Varner, 27, saw a three-fight winning streak snapped in his last outing, suffering a third-round submission defeat to Joe Lauzon in a “Fight of the Night” winning bout at UFC on Fox 4. A former World Extreme Cagefighting champion, Varner rejoined the UFC this past May, stepping in as an injury replacement for Evan Dunham against Edson Barboza. “C-4” shocked the bookmakers in that UFC 146 contest, knocking out the previously unbeaten Barboza with a flurry of punches in 3:23.
