“The Ultimate Fighter 26” coaches Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez will square off at UFC 218 in Detroit on Dec. 2.
Multiple outlets have confirmed the lightweight booking following an initial report from BJPenn.com. UFC 218 takes place at Little Caesars Arena and is headlined by a featherweight title clash between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar.
The 28-year-old Gaethje had a spectacular Octagon debut, as he stopped Michael Johnson 4:48 into the second round at the “TUF 25” finale in one of 2017’s best fights. The former World Series of Fighting lightweight champion is 18-0 as a professional, with all but two of those triumphs coming inside the distance.
A former UFC lightweight champion, Alvarez is coming of a bout vs. Dustin Poirier that was ruled a no contest when Alvarez landed a pair of accidental knees to his grounded opponent in the second stanza. Prior to that, Alvarez dropped the lightweight belt to Conor McGregor via second-round TKO at UFC 205.
