‘TUF: Brazil 3’ Finale Weigh-In Results: Headliners Stipe Miocic, Fabio Maldonado Cleared
This was not what Stipe
Miocic had in mind.
Miocic checked in at 238 pounds for his five-round showdown with Fabio Maldonado (225) in “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3” Finale Finale main event on Saturday at Geraldo Jose de Almeida Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The four “Ultimate Fighter” finalists -- heavyweights Vitor Miranda (216) and Antonio Carlos Jr. (212), along with middleweights Marcio Alexandre Jr. (184) and Warlley Alves (185) -- also met their contracted weight requirements without incident at Friday’s official weigh-in.
A Strong Style Fight Team representative, Miocic was originally
booked to meet Junior dos
Santos, but the former heavyweight champion was forced to
withdraw with an injury. The 31-year-old Euclid, Ohio, native
representative will enter the cage on a modest two-fight winning
streak. He last appeared at UFC on Fox 10 in January, when he
captured a unanimous decision from Gabriel
Gonzaga at the United Center in Chicago. Miocic has pieced
together a 5-1 record since touching down in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship in October 2011.
Maldonado, a light heavyweight by trade who owns a 4-3 record inside the Octagon, has rattled off three straight wins since his brutal October 2012 defeat to Glover Teixeira. The 34-year-old Brazilian last fought at UFC Fight Night “Shogun vs. Henderson 2” in March, when he picked up a unanimous decision over Gian Villante at Nelio Dias Gymnasium in Natal, Brazil. A skilled and accomplished pugilist, Maldonado holds a perfect 22-0 mark with 21 knockouts as a professional boxer.
“The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3” Finale -- which airs live on Fox Sports 1 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- will also feature a welterweight scrap pitting 2007 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist Demian Maia (171) against Alexander Yakovlev (170) and a featherweight clash pairing “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” Season 1 winner Rony Mariano Bezerra (146) with Robbie Peralta (146).
Two hours prior, Fox Sports 1 will also carry four preliminary bouts: Rodrigo Damm (156) vs. Rashid Magomedov (155), Elias Silverio (155) vs. Ernest Chavez (156), Paulo Thiago (171) vs. Gasan Umalatov (171) and Edimilson Souza (145) vs. Mark Eddiva (146). The three remaining undercard matchup will stream to UFC Fight Pass at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT, as Ricardo Abreu (183) meets Wagner Silva (185), Marcos Rogerio de Lima (235) faces Richardson Moreira (216) and Matt Hobar (136) battles Pedro Munhoz (135).
