Tachi Palace Fights 28 Weigh-in Results: Only Navarro Will Fight for Title

Tachi Palace Fights 28 goes down live Thursday night and will be streamed live right here on Sherdog.com. The action will go live starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT from inside the Tachi Palace Hotel Casino in Lemoore, Calif., and the card will be anchored by two championship fights.

In the main event, Brian Cobb was supposed to take on Danny Navarro for the vacant TPF lightweight title, but at Wednesday’s weigh-ins, all hell broke loose. Navarro was ready and trim as he came in right on the money at 155 pounds. But Cobb missed badly. After taking the fight on just three weeks’ notice, he tried his best to cut down from about 185 pounds but didn’t come close; he weighed in at 169.1 pounds. Because of that, if Navarro wins, he’ll be crowned the lightweight champ but if Cobb gets his hand raised, the title will remain vacant.

“I was notified this morning that Brian was going to miss the official weight by a lot. I then contacted Navarro and had him pre weigh-in with me at 155 so he can still be eligible for the title fight,” said Tachi Palace Fights’ Richard Goodman via email. “I then had him eat and rehydrate prior to the commission weigh-ins so there's no huge difference between the two. Officially Danny weighed in at 164 to Cobb’s 169. Danny had already had previous title fight scraped and didn't want to lose the opportunity. Both guy's will re-weigh [Thursday] in order to assure no weight difference issues day of the event. We have always done nothing but assure every fight is completely matched fair.”

The co-feature was supposed to be Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Jared Papazian opposing Casey Kenney for the vacant flyweight title. But just like the main event, there was controversy. Papazian came in five pounds over the 125-pound limit and since Kenney was on the mark, he and his camp opted not to fight. The fight was scrapped entirely.
