Emmett has told Bloody Elbow that he has gone back to the drawing board in an effort to improve on his last performance, where he believes he needed a killer instinct against Stephens, rather than focussing on fatigue which ended up being his downfall.
The interview also revealed that he and another featherweight contender, Team Alpha Male training partner Chad Mendes, have already spoken to each other on potentially fighting one another in the future. Mendes fought earlier this month for the first time since December 2015 following a two year suspension for allegedly taking a banned substance. The 33-year-old Mendes made short work of his opponent Myles Jury, declaring that he is back in the title hunt in the 145-pound division.
Emmett said he and Mendes agreed that the only time where they would fight each other is for the title.
“Not only him, but I’m not going to fight any of my teammates. Chad and I have talked about this and we would only fight each other if one of us was the champion, and the other was the number one contender. In that case, as long as we get paid well, there would be no hard feelings, but that’s the only way you would ever see something like that.”
