The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale Play-by-Play

Sherdog.com reports from The Pearl in Las Vegas, Nevada with live play-by-play of UFC's Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale, which is headlined by the rematch between B.J. Penn (Pictures) and Jens Pulver (Pictures).

Brian Geraghty vs. Matt Wiman (Pictures)
Round 1
Matt Wiman scores an early single-leg takedown. Wiman scoring with a barrage of punches and elbows from his opponent's guard. Wiman moves to the mount. Brian Geraghty rolls over to avoid punishment, but the tactic does not work as Wiman unleashes about 10 straight right hands to the side of his head. The referee steps in to show mercy at 2:09 of the opening period.

Alan Berubie vs. Leonard Garcia
Round 1
The fighters clinch in the opening seconds of the round. Berubie takes the fight to the canvas with an inside leg trip. Garcia works back to his feet and pulls guard with a guillotine choke. Berubie escapes and works for a guillotine of his own after a scramble. Good action thus far in this back and fourth battle. From half-guard, Garcia sweeps and takes his opponent's back after another scramble. He locks on the rear naked choke and forces a tapout at 4:22 of the first.

Robert Emerson (Pictures) vs. Gray Maynard (Pictures)
Round 1
The opening 5 minutes is an absolute war. The fighters trade toe-to-toe in the center of the octagon. Maynard connects with a hard right. Emerson executes a beautiful hip toss that sends Maynard head-first to the canvas. Maynard works Emerson's body with hard punches. Maynard strikes from the mount and back position before the horn sounds to end the round.

Round 2
Maynard scores with an uppercut and slams Emerson hard to the mat. Emerson is injured and taps, but Maynard knocked himself out while executing the throw. Maynard complains after the bout that he was not unconscious but replays tell a different story. The fight is ruled a no-contest.

Andy Wang vs. Cole Miller (Pictures)
Round 1
Cole Miller lands a left leg head kick that drops Andy Wang. He pounces with lefts and rights until the referee pulls him off. The official time is 1:10 of the first period.

Brandon Melendez (Pictures) vs. Joe Lauzon (Pictures)
Round 1
Lauzon takes the fight to the ground with a double-leg takedown after landing and eating some crisp punches. Lauzon moves to the mount. Melendez bucks to escape, but Lauzon hops on his back and looks for a rear naked choke. Melendez gets to his feet but is taken down again. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Lauzon.

Round 2
Lauzon opens the second round with another double-leg takedown. He moves to mount shortly after. Melendez gives up his back but fights off the rear naked choke. Melendez turns into Lauzon and is caught in a beautiful triangle choke. He taps at 2:09 of the second stage. Impressive performance from Joe Lauzon.

Roger Huerta (Pictures) vs. Douglas Evans
Round 1
Evans presses Huerta against the cage and throws him to the mat. Huerta works back to his feet and now fids himself with his back against the cage. Evans scores with a right standing elbow. Evans rocks Huerta with a right hand. Huerta opens up and answers with his hands. Huerta looks sloppy early in this lightweight bout. Evans, while standing, hops on Huerta's back and flattens him out. Evans rolls him over and locks in a body triangle from the back. Huerta battles to his feet but gets caught in a guillotine. Huerta escapes but eats several knees to the body and a few punches. Evans dominates the opening period, 10-9.

Round 2
Huerta comes out throwing hands. Hard left scores for the SI cover boy. Evans shoots in and takes the fight to the canvas. Huerta trades positions with Evans and gains side-control. Using excellent leg work, Evans gets his guard back. Evans tries to reverse the position but Huerta hops on his back. Huerta tees off until referee Steve Mazzagatti halts the contest. The official time is 3:30 of the second.

Floyd Sword vs. Thales Leites (Pictures)
Round 1
Leites misses on a spinning back kick aimed at Sword's body. Leites throws Sword to the mat and starts to work from half-guard. Sword works to his feet but Leites scores with a excellent judo toss. Leites, standing, kicks away at his downed opponent's legs. He passes Sword's guard and jumps on his back briefly before transitioning to an arm triangle choke. Sword taps quickly at the 3:50 mark.

Manvel Gamburyan (Pictures) vs. Nathan Diaz (Pictures)
Round 1
The lightweights charge forward and meet in the center of the octagon. Gamburyan locks up a guillotine choke and pulls guard. The hold is tight but Nathan works his way out. Manvel presses Diaz against the fence and eventually trips his opponent to the floor. Gamburyan momentarily takes Diaz's back, but after a few hard punches Nathan rolls over and gets full guard. Diaz locks in an omaplata but Gamburyan frees himself. Diaz continues to be offensive from his back as he goes for a Kimura. Both fighters now standing. Gamburyan closes the round controlling with a front headlock. Sherdog.com sees it 10-9 for Gamburyan.

Round 2
The fighters trade wild strikes. Gamburyan shoots in and taps immediately. His right shoulder is dislocated. A surprised Diaz walks away from his injured opponent calmly with his hands raised.

B.J. Penn (Pictures) vs. Jens Pulver (Pictures)
Round 1
Penn lands a wild right that staggers Pulver backwards. Penn lifts his opponent into the air and crashes him to the mat. Pulver worked to his feet but was slammed right back down. Penn working from half-guard. Penn passes and mounts. He locks on an armbar but Pulver escapes. Penn locks on a tight triangle. Pulver shows excellent defense in escaping. Penn gets back to his feet. Pulver lands a knee to the midsection. Sherdog.com scores the first round 10-9 for B.J. Penn.

Round 2
Pulver snaps Penn's head back with a left hand. Penn answers with a single-leg takedown. Penn tries to pass. Penn mounts and delivers some punishment. Pulver turns his back and eats several hard punches and an elbow. Penn striking patiently from the back with two hooks. He rolls Pulver and forces a tap with a rear naked choke. B.J. held onto his neck longer than what was necessary, but the fighters embrace seconds after.
