The UFC’s “Pitbull” will return to the cage on April 19, when Thiago Alves takes on Seth Baczynski at UFC on Fox 11.
The show marks the Las Vegas-based promotion’s debut trip to Orlando, Fla., and takes place at the Amway Center, headlined by a heavyweight title eliminator pitting Fabricio Werdum against Travis Browne. UFC officials also announced a new middleweight duel on Thursday, which will see Caio Magalhaes battle “TUF 17” veteran Josh Samman.
Alves has not competed since March 2012, when he suffered a third-round submission defeat to Martin Kampmann at UFC on FX 2. The 30-year-old began his UFC career with nine victories in his first 11 Octagon appearances before falling to then-champion Georges St. Pierre -- a defeat which would begin a stretch of four losses in Alves’ next six fights.
Baczynski, 32, recently halted a two-fight skid in his most recent outing, in which he edged Neil Magny in a hard-fought unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 31. Prior to that triumph, “The Polish Pistola” dropped a unanimous verdict to Mike Pierce before suffering a knockout at the hands of underdog Brian Melancon this past July.
