On Thursday, Santos posted on his social media that the doctors report the surgery was a success and that he is now on the road to recovery. His brief statement said, "After 4 hours of surgery, the drs [sic] say everything is fixed! Now my focus is on a full recovery so I can get back in there better and stronger!”
Santos faced Jon Jones for the light heavyweight crown at UFC 239 in Las Vegas, where the Brazilian lost a hard-fought split decision. During the bout, Santos suffered injuries to both his knees; including a torn ACL, MCL, PCL and meniscus on his left knee. After the battle, Jones wished him a speedy recovery, and looked forward to a potential rematch in the future.
Although the surgery was deemed a success, Santos still has a long way to go, as he will likely be out of commission for at least the next eight months.
