A scrap between two heavy-handed light heavyweights has been added to UFC Fight Night 35, as Thiago Silva will go head-to-head with Ovince St. Preux.

UFC officials announced the matchup Wednesday.

UFC Fight Night 35 features a main event pitting ex-Strikeforce middleweight titlist Luke Rockhold against Costas Philippou. The card will air live on Fox Sports 1 and takes place Jan. 15 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga.

Following a 5-1 Strikeforce run, St. Preux has started his Octagon career with three consecutive victories. Most recently, he scored a knockout win over Cody Donovan at UFC Fight Night 26 after beginning 2013 with a controversial technical decision win over Gian Villante at UFC 159. “OSP” has stopped 10 of his 14 victims inside the distance and has been knocked out once in 19 pro outings.

Silva enters into his clash with St. Preux following victories over Matt Hamill and Rafael Cavalcante earlier this year. The wins improved Silva’s record under the Zuffa banner to 7-3, but the native Brazilian struggled in his previous four bouts, alternating between losses to Rashad Evans and Alexander Gustafsson and no-contests with Stanislav Nedkov and Brandon Vera due to failed drug tests. The 31-year-old also failed to make weight for his most recent bout with Hamill and was forced to forfeit a portion of his fight purse as a result.
