A matchup between bantamweight prospects Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt is the likely headliner for UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas on May 29.
Multiple outlets have confirmed that the bout has been targeted for the event after MMAJunkie.com’s John Morgan initially broke the news on Twitter. UFC Fight Night will also include a featherweight clash pitting Renan Barao against Jeremy Stephens.
The 24-year-old Almeida is unbeaten in 20 professional outings, with 19 of those triumphs coming inside the distance. The Sao Paulo native is 4-0 in the UFC, including KO/TKO victories over Yves Jabouin, Brad Pickett and Anthony Birchak.
Garbrandt, meanwhile, is 8-0 in his burgeoning professional tenure. The Team Alpha Male representative has bested Marcus Brimage, Enrique Briones and Augusto Mendes in UFC competition. Thus far, Mendes is the only Garbrandt opponent to make it to the judges.
