The alleged incident occurred at approximately 1:08 a.m. at Drai’s Nightclub at the Cromwell Casino, where Ortiz engaged in a struggle for a cell phone with a woman, who claimed that he attempted to take her phone as she was filming a video. TMZ reports that Ortiz tried to “whip her around” and that the woman was “scared for her life.”
Police officers arrived at the scene and spoke to both parties. Ortiz was cited but not arrested and is due in court at a yet-to-be-determined date. Misdemeanor battery can lead to a $1,000 fine or six months in jail in Nevada. Community service is often assigned instead of said punishment, however.
Bellator officials declined comment on the matter when reached by Sherdog.com. Ortiz last competed at Bellator 142 in September, when he was submitted by Liam McGeary in the opening frame of a 205-pound title bout.
