Tokoro in Car Accident, Fight in Jeopardy

An incident between a fender and bumper has put Hideo Tokoro (Pictures) between a rock and a hard place.

On Tuesday, Dream parent company Fighting and Entertainment Group announced that Tokoro would take on Takeshi Yamazaki (Pictures) in a featherweight feature on Monday's Dream lightweight grand prix finale at Osaka Castle Hall in Osaka, Japan. However, according to Japanese media reports, Tokoro was in a rear-end collision yesterday that has complicated those plans.

According to reports from Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun, Tokoro's car was caught in traffic in Machida, Tokyo, around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck from behind by another automobile. According to the Machida Metropolitan Police Department, the motorist who struck Tokoro was a 28-year-old male office worker from Hachioji, who told police that he was "lost in thought" and wasn't looking at what was in front of him.

As a result of the fender bender, the 30-year-old Tokoro suffered a mild waist and back injury, and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. The injury was diagnosed as requiring only a week's recovery, however, but comes five days out from his scheduled bout with Yamazaki.

FEG have not made an official statement regarding whether or not Tokoro will still compete against Yamazaki. However, Tokoro's handlers through the ZST secretariat have stated that they are optimistic that Japan's "Cinderella Boy" will still fight on Monday.
