While UFC 229 is headlined by arguably the biggest fight in Ultimate Fighting Championship history between lightweights Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, the rest of the card is taking shape with another exciting 155-pound battle between Tony Ferguson and former champion Anthony Pettis.

This will be Ferguson’s first fight since October 2017 after tearing ligaments in his knee earlier this year while undertaking promotional work in the lead up to his fight with Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 in April.

Ferguson recently revealed he has been medically cleared to return to the Octagon and didn’t waste time signing a contract against the veteran Pettis.

However, according to a recent post on Instagram, it seems there is bad blood between the pair, which stems back to 2014 around the time Pettis was the lightweight champion. Whatever happened seemed to have lit a fire under Ferguson.

The talent-rich lightweight division has a number of intriguing match ups in the last quarter of the year, starting with the title fight between Nurmagomedov and McGregor and Ferguson and Pettis at UFC 229 and then a match between Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz at UFC 230.
