A bantamweight championship rematch between Tonya Evinger and Yana Kunitskaya will take place at Invicta FC 22.
The matchup was announced during the Invicta FC 21 broadcast on Saturday night. Invicta FC 22 will take place on March 25 in Kansas City, and the card will stream in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass.
In their first meeting, Kunitskaya initially appeared to defeat Evinger via armbar 1:59 into the opening stanza at Invicta FC 20. Evinger attempted to pry her arm free by pushing her heel on Kunitskaya’s face. Referee Mike England warned Evinger even though the maneuver was a legal one since Evinger was not landing a strike or stomp to her downed opponent.
Evinger appealed to the Missouri Office of Athletics that England’s warning forced her to move into a position that enabled Kunitskaya to more easily secure the fight-ending tapout. Evinger won her appeal and retained the 135-pound title when the commission overturned the verdict to a no contest.
Prior to that bout, Evinger had won nine straight fights to establish herself as perhaps the top female bantamweight outside the UFC. Kunitskaya, meanwhile, had won nine of her 11 professional appearances, with eight of those triumphs coming inside the distance.
