Friday's weigh-in for the World Cagefighting Organization event in San Diego, Calif., took over five hours to complete, according to sources
in attendance.
Fighters waited hungrily to step on the scale, and in the end two bouts were scrapped, further altering a card that still includes veterans
Ricco Rodriguez (Pictures),
Renato Sobral (Pictures), and
David Loiseau (Pictures).
Tiki Ghosn (Pictures) lost a fight, said his manager Ken Pavia, when
JJ Ambrose (Pictures) failed to appear at the weigh-in.
Carmelo Marrero (Pictures), also a client of
Pavia's, was left without an opponent when they declined to fight
Vinicius Magalhaes on short notice.
Also on the card,
Mark Kerr (Pictures) will fight Hawaiian
Kauai Kupihea (Pictures) instead of famed kickboxer
Rick Roufus, who failed to gain licensing by the
CSAC.
In the main event, light heavyweight
Renato Sobral (Pictures) will return for the first time since being cut by the UFC for infractions in the Octagon.
He fights veteran
Vernon White.
Rodriguez meets the maligned
Mike Kyle (Pictures), who steps into the cage for a fight for the first time since 2006, when he was disqualified for
attacking and injuring
Brian Olsen (Pictures) after the outcome of their fight had been determined. The CSAC, which had no oversight on the fight since it
took place on Native American soil, indefinitely suspended Kyle, who said he intends to drop down from heavyweight to 205 pounds after
Saturday's fight.
