UFC 102 Payouts: Nogueira Banks $460,000
Sherdog.com Staff Aug 31, 2009
Antonio
Rodrigo Nogueira was rewarded with $460,000 for his versatile
three-round victory over perennial Randy
Couture at UFC 102 in Portland, Ore., Saturday.
The 33-year-old Brazilian chased away calls for his retirement by knocking down Couture twice and threatening the wrestler with an array of submission attempts on the canvas in a fast-paced affair.
Couture earned $250,000 for his second straight defeat in the
Octagon, but later announced a seven-fight, 28-month contract
extension (that began Saturday), which will keep the 46-year-old
legend with the promotion until his retirement.
Middleweight Nate Marquardt also scared up $140,000 in his 21-second knockout of jiu-jitsu standout Demian Maia, who made $28,000. Marquardt also received the promotion’s $60,000 knockout of the night bonus and could face Dan Henderson next for a No. 1 contender’s spot, or head straight to a title bout against Anderson Silva.
