UFC 109 Payouts: Couture Earns $250,000
Monday, February 08, 2010
Randy Couture continued his march toward another light heavyweight title shot with a second-round submission against fellow hall of famer Mark Coleman at UFC 109 Saturday in Las Vegas. Couture, 46, topped the disclosed salaries’ list for the event with a $250,000 take, while Coleman made $60,000 for what UFC President Dana White said would likely be the storied Ohio wrestler’s final bow in the Octagon.

Chael Sonnen seized his own opportunity for a middleweight title bid with a shutout unanimous decision over Nate Marquardt. Sonnen, a U.S. Olympic wrestling team alternate, made $124,000, including the promotion’s “Fight of the Night” bonus he shared with Marquardt, who took home $105,000.

Matt Serra was another big breadwinner with a $210,000 haul for his first-round technical knockout against Frank Trigg. Trigg, facing his second striking-induced defeat in the Octagon in as many fights, made $30,000.
