UFC 137 Lands Credeur-Tavares Matchup on Oct. 29

“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 11 semifinalist Brad Tavares (Pictured; file photo) and Tim Credeur have reached verbal agreements to meet in a preliminary middleweight matchup at UFC 137 “St. Pierre vs. Diaz” on Oct. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. UFC officials on Wednesday revealed the proposed bout at 185 pounds.

Tavares (7-1, 2-1 UFC) tasted defeat for the first time at UFC 132 on July 2, when he dropped a unanimous decision to Aaron Simpson at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The 23-year-old Hawaiian sports five first-round finishes among his seven career victories. Wins over the well-traveled Phil Baroni and International Fight League veteran Seth Baczynski anchor his resume.

A black belt in judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Credeur (12-4, 3-2 UFC) finds himself on a two-fight losing streak for the first time as a professional. He last appeared at “The Ultimate Fighter 13” Finale in June, when he succumbed to first-round punches from Ed Herman in less than a minute at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Spawned by Season 7 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Credeur’s UFC wins have come at the expense of Cale Yarbrough, Nate Loughran and Nick Catone. The 34-year-old Lafayette, La., native has secured all 12 of his career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

An anticipated five-round welterweight title bout pairing longtime champion Georges St. Pierre with former Strikeforce titleholder Nick Diaz will headline UFC 137. In addition, former WEC kingpin Carlos Condit will lock horns with B.J. Penn -- one of two men to win UFC gold in more than one weight class -- in a pivotal matchup at 170 pounds.
