UFC 146 Set for April 21 at Atlanta’s Philips Arena
Atlanta will play host to the
Ultimate Fighting Championship for the first time since 2008
when the city hosts UFC 146
on April 21.
The event was announced during Tuesday’s episode of “UFC Tonight” on Fuel TV. While no matchups were announced nor venue specified, MMAJunkie.com reports that the show will take place at the 19,000-seat Philips Arena, home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.
The UFC last traveled to Philips Arena in the Georgia state capital for UFC 88 in September 2008, when Rashad Evans recorded a memorable knockout of Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin scored a third-round stoppage against Matt Hamill. In the pre-Zuffa era, Augusta, Ga.’s Augusta Civic Center hosted a pair of events, UFC 11 in 1996 and UFC 13 in 1997.
One week prior to UFC 146, on April 14, the company will stage UFC on Fuel TV 2 in Stockholm, Sweden.
